We are striving to develop positive digital citizens by becoming a Common Sense school. The link provided in this post includes helpful tips for parents to help students use technology in a positive, constructive manner. Our students are discussing topics and participating in classroom lessons to build digital citizenship skills as well.

It is a busy time of year so please mark your calendars for the following events at the Park:


November 6th – No school for students, morning parent conferences

November 9th – Veteran’s Day Assembly, 8:30 am

November 12th – PTA Spirit Night at Potbelly Sandwich Shop, 4:00 – 9:00 pm

November 13th – PTA Meeting – Reflection Winners Announced, 7:00 pm

November 16th – Last day for the Henrico Christmas Mother canned food drive

November 21st – 23rd – Thanksgiving Holiday

November 28th – Make-up Picture Day

Henrico Christmas Mother Food Drive

“Gobble, Gobble! It is time for us to start collecting canned goods for our Turkey King and Queen Contest. We are collecting canned goods from November 1st – 16th to support the Henrico Christmas Mother. Your donations not only support a wonderful charity but they will help your student’s teacher earn the title of Turkey Queen/King for the 2018- 2019 school year!! Thank you in advance for all of your donations! Look how many cans we collected last year! Let’s try to collect even more this year!

Bedford Falls Book Fair

The library will have the Bedford Falls Book Fair the week of October 22nd -26th. The fair is open from 2:00 -4:00 pm Monday through Thursday and from 2:30-7:30 pm on Friday. Friday’s hours coordinate with our PTA Trunk-or-Treat event. This is a great fundraiser for the library which allows us to purchase more books and materials for our students. Thank you for your continued support of Springfield Park!

October is “Socktober” at the Park!

As part of our theme, Be K.I.N.D., we are collecting socks for the Henrico Family Engagement Center throughout the month of October. Please consider donating new socks (any size) to the box in the main hallway. We will celebrate our students’ donations with Crazy Sock Day on October 31st. Thank you for continuing to support Springfield Park and our community.

Know an amazing principal? Nominate him or her for a 2018-19 REB leadership award

Henrico, Va. Oct. 1, 2018 – The REB Awards for Distinguished Educational Leadership provide a tangible, public way to recognize an outstanding principal at a Henrico County school. The Community Foundation’s yearly awards identify, recognize and support leadership excellence in the Richmond area. Honorees receive an unrestricted $7,500 cash grant, and $7,500 to be used for school initiatives. Eligible are principals from public schools in Henrico, Chesterfield and Hanover counties and the city of Richmond. Nominees should have served in their current positions for at least three years.

Who: The Community Foundation invites nominations from students, parents, colleagues, school personnel and administrators and the community at large. Nominations should take the form of a completed nomination form, downloaded from the foundation’s website, a one- to two-page typeset letter describing the nominee’s distinguished educational leadership. It can be accompanied by up to three one-page letters of support. Principals may not nominate themselves.

When: Nominations must be mailed or hand-delivered, and must be received by 5 p.m. on Nov. 8. Emailed or faxed nominations are not accepted.

Gifted Identification Referral

Parent referrals for gifted identification will be accepted in October for students in grades 3, 4, and 5. Students can be referred between October 9 and October 26, 2018. No referrals will be accepted after October 26, 2018 for students in grades 3 – 5.

Students in kindergarten, first, and second can be referred between January 3 and January 18, 2019.

Please submit referrals in writing (email is acceptable) to our Gifted Resource Teacher, Teresa Atkinson,, during the appropriate referral period.  The subject line of the email should state Gifted Referral, and the email should include student’s first and last name, grade level, teacher, and area of referral (English, Math or Both areas).  An email confirmation will be sent within 48 hours.  If you do not receive an email confirmation, please call the school.
