Summer Cleaning

We hope you are continuing to stay safe and healthy as you enjoy your summer. As you clean out old clothes, shoes, sheets, towels, or pillows, consider donating them to the bin at Springfield Park. Our bin was closed for the spring, but it is open and accepting donations again. The school receives funds for each pound of donated items. Please remember we can accept materials made of fabric that are in closed plastic bags. We cannot accept furniture and items should not be left outside of the bin. Thank you for your continued support of the Park!

Summer Hours – By Appointment Only

We are eager to support you with student registrations and other preparations for the upcoming school year, no matter what the school year ultimately looks like (those plans are still being made on a county level). For now, we want you to know that our school will have “in person” Office Hours, by appointment only, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Monday through Thursday beginning Monday, July 20.  For the purpose of ensuring the health and safety of all, we ask that you make an appointment to register a child for school (or to bring documents to complete a registration that was started online). Unfortunately, we will be unable to accept visits without an appointment.

    • If you are a family who is new to the country, please contact the ESL Welcome Center (804-527-4604 or tmdalmond@henrico.k12.va.us) to schedule your registration appointment.  They will assist you with the process using a translator to help complete the required documents.
    • As a reminder, HCPS employees as well as visitors to schools are expected to wear a mask or facial covering when entering the building. When you visit to register your child, it is important that you bring and wear a mask or facial covering.
    • As an additional safety and health measure, we ask that only the person with whom the appointment is with come to the school, please visit without your child(ren), if possible. We will have additional opportunities for you and your child to see the school in late August and September.

For additional registration information, please visit https://henricoschools.us/registration/

For further questions, you may contact the principal, Tracy Spain, at tspain@henrico.k12.va.us.

Papa John’s Dollars for Dough

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!  We are excited to announce that we the won 3rd  place prize of $3,500 in the 2019-2020 Papa John’s “Dough for Dollars”  contest to enhance learning at “The Park.”  The “Dollar for Dough” 2020-2021 competition began June 1. When you are too tired from a day of fun in the sun and do not feel like making dinner, order from Papa John’s.  You know how easy it is.  Go to www.papajohns.com and use the code SPES.  “The Park” always receives a percentage of the total price of the order.  To win the $10,000, we need points for orders as well as total dollar amount.  In years past we have had the most money but fell short in order points. Each order with a minimum of $12.00, is one point towards the $10,000.  If possible, if you can break up large orders into several smaller orders, we will get the most bang for your buck.  You can order on line for store pick-up and you will not have to pay a delivery charge. Remember, it does not matter where you are in Virginia, the code will work.  Tell your family and friends.  Wishing you and yours a wonderful, fun and pizza filled summer!

Chrome Book Distribution

Good Afternoon Springfield Park families,

This message is for families who filled out a survey earlier this month and told us their family needs an HCPS-issued Chromebook computer for online learning. HCPS will begin distributing Chromebooks this week. Chromebooks are being distributed on a one-per-family basis, not one-per-student; one will be provided for each family needing a laptop computer to facilitate learning during the closure. Please read these instructions carefully for details about borrowing and caring for the Chromebooks:

Chromebook pick-up:

Go to Hungary Creek Middle School, 4909 Francistown Road, Glen Allen, VA  23060 to pick up a Chromebook on Thursday April 23, 2020 and Friday, April 24, 2020.

  • If your student’s last name begins with the letters A-L, please go to the pickup location between 9 a.m and noon.
  • If your student’s last name begins with the letters M-Z, please go to the pickup location between 1-4 p.m.

Questions and answers:

Who is eligible to receive a Chromebook?

  • Any Henrico elementary student who is registered at an HCPS elementary school and does not have a laptop or Chromebook at home. Families indicated their need for a Chromebook in a survey we sent earlier this month.

What can I expect when I pick up the Chromebook for my student?

  • Pull into the bus loop to get in line. There will be an individual directing traffic. During the pick-up process, remain in your vehicle at all times.
  • A staff member will approach your vehicle and ask for your child’s name and school, and your name. You will need to show valid identification.
  • You will be asked if you have internet service in your home, and if you do not, you will be offered a Wi-Fi hot-spot device, if available (supplies are limited).
  • Proceed to receive a Chromebook and charger. You’ll receive information about the Chromebook and the conditions of borrowing one. If you agree, the laptop will be placed in your vehicle’s back seat or trunk.
  • Throughout this process, all staff members will minimize contact and exercise safe practices.

What is needed for a Chromebook to work?

  • Internet service is required for the Chromebook to function and connect to digital resources that will be provided to students by their teachers.
  • Each student’s HCPS Google account must be used to log into the Chromebook.
  • There is no educational software or content saved or stored on the Chromebooks.

Where should I go if the Chromebook is broken or does not work?

  • Remember, to function well, all Chromebooks and chargers must be cared for appropriately.
  • If Chromebooks develop problems, they can be brought to a mobile technology hub to be turned in for repair. Hours of operations are Monday through Friday from 8:30-10:30 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. Mobile hub locations are:

    • Deep Run High School (4801 Twin Hickory Road, Glen Allen, Va.)
    • Douglas Freeman High School (8701 Three Chopt Road, Henrico, Va.)
    • Hermitage High School (8301 Hungary Spring Road, Henrico, Va.)
    • Highland Springs High School (15 S. Oak Ave., Highland Springs, Va.)

What if I don’t have internet service in my home for the Chromebook?

  • HCPS will loan you a Wi-Fi hot-spot device while supplies last. Additionally, Comcast is offering free and low-cost internet at this time for qualifying families. To see if you qualify for their promotion, visit Comcast’s “Internet Essentials” website. The website for the promotion is internetessentials.com/covid19.  If you want to apply for Internet Essentials over the phone please call 1-855-8-INTERNET (1-855-846-8376).  Comcast’s call center hours of operation are from 8 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week.

Is the Chromebook set up to safely avoid access to inappropriate web content?

  • Yes. Every Chromebook is filtered by HCPS’ web filtering system to provide as secure an environment for students as possible. Students should use technology responsibly at all times.

When do I need to return the Chromebook and charger my family has received?

  • A date will be announced later for the return of each Chromebook. Until then, each Chromebook and charger must be properly cared for.

Where can I find HCPS’ online learning materials for elementary students?

Thank you for reading,

Tracy Spain, Principal

We Miss You!

Our teachers wanted everyone to know just how much they miss our Springers. Check out the book we made of the teacher’s responses to the statement “I wish the students knew…” Even though we won’t be returning to school this year, we hope everyone is staying safe and healthy.
